Lower Elementary Enrichment Programs
Music
Musikgarten offers comprehensive curricula
for children from birth to age nine. Based on meeting the
developmental needs of children as they grow, a teacher provides a
consistent and thoughtful music-learning plan. Throughout the
curriculum, favorite songs, stories and dances are
revisited—building on what the child has learned and enjoyed and
progresses to more complex music understanding.
Musikgarten-licensed schools send the
Family Packets home to enable the child to really learn the songs
that make up the core repertoire of the school music program. For
the older child, familiarity with the material allows him to engage
in complex activities such as dancing, building instrumental
ensembles, or playing musical games. Reinforcing the music at home
enables the child to experience fully and enjoy all the fun
activities that takes place in the music class!!
Bible
Our bible curriculum is “God’s Plan.” We
focus on God’s providential work through history, emphasizing
Christian values and encouraging each child’s personal relationship
with God on a daily basis. The children have weekly bible lessons
with basic scripture memorization. Children work with hands-on
lessons (Parable boxes) that faithfully pass on the stories and
teachings of the Bible. By using an integrated curriculum and an
approach to education that focuses on the individual child, the
teaching of God’s Word does not become compartmentalized.
Rather, a
thread of spirituality and bible truths are woven throughout the
curriculum and into all aspects of a child’s life. As the child
matures, these lessons expand to include Christian characteristics
and in-depth studies of key biblical concepts.
Latin
All lower elementary children experience
age-appropriate beginning Latin class. GMA desires to provide the
students with an understanding of the language that the Romans spoke
and brought to Britain, and which was so influential on the
development of the English language. Our goal is to help the
students understand English grammar, and to extend their English
vocabulary, through the study of Latin. Our students begin with the
Cambridge University Press publication, “Minimus,” which provides
them with an enjoyable exposure to beginning Latin. As the children
progress, primarily in the third grade, they begin to study Latin
from the Prima Latin series which follows a traditional scope and
sequence and is consistent with the grammar, logic and rhetoric
stages of the trivium.
